Phablet is the term, means phone + tablet. Phablet can be explained as a larger sized smartphone, That came first with the debut of Samsung Galaxy Note 1. And since them they have improved in specs as well as size and occupied a huge amount of market share.
Phablet brought a revolution in tech world, many were excited to surf Internet in large screen and Watch movies or play games, but many other also criticized Phablet.
Bob O'Donnell, the founder of Technalysis Research, was One of the critics, thought that Phablets “were ridiculous", especially when making or attending a call. “But over time, they grow on you", he said.
Now he forecasts that 175 million Phablets will be sold globally in 2014. He says that figure will outsell the 165 million small tablets(8 inch or smaller).
According to O'Donnell South Korea is where 67% of all smartphones sport have a display greater than 5-inch, which is how he defines a Phablet. So, the 5.2- inch LG G2 (LG's latest flagship Android smartphone) falls in Phablet territory.
Other countries where Phablets are rocking include Britain, Germany, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Brazil and Eastern Europe. U.S. is lagging behind Phablet sells, but O'Donnell says that a larger screened Apple iPhone could change that. While current iPhones have a 4-inch screen, Rumors suggest that Apple is working on larger iPhone models including one with gigantic 5.5-inch glass.
This year has seen a lot of battle for the best Phablet title. Some great Phablets appeared this year and promises us to get ready for a year of Phablets. The likes of Samsung Galaxy Note 3, HTC One Max, Nokia Lumia 1520, Sony Xperia Z ultra are bound to be replaced by successors with more powerful CPU, GPU and obviously larger screen size. Smaller smartphone manufacturers also jumped into the Giant Phablet race, the recently launched OPPO N1 with 5.8-inch screen has created a huge impact on tech world.
And we are certainly going to enjoy this. What do you think of Phablets? Do you have one? Or looking to buy one? Please comment and let us know.
