It’s been a busy month for Opera, having released
the 20th version for Android with the brand new WebRTC (a real-time
communication API definition) that enables users to start a video chat directly
from the browser app without the need of other apps to do that, the WebRTC
enabled browser supports up to 8 users at a time in a video conference. Now
they took care of feature phone users. Opera has started to roll out the Opera
mini 8 mobile browser. The new Opera mini 8 sports all new look along with some
nifty features for feature phones and Blackberry OS devices (JAVA supported
models).
The new features include:
1. Night Mode:
Night mode dims the brightness of the screen to
offer better visibility by using darker colors; this feature will help when
viewing a page in a dark place where white color hurt the eyes.
2. Improved Data Savings
Report:
The new data savings is now a separate option in the
menu, this lets users to toggle the image loading and image quality, and shows
the users to monitor how much data they saved.
3. Private Mode:
This feature was first introduced in the 4.5 version
of Opera mini. This features private tabs which don’t save details of the browsing
after the tab is closed; the tab turns dark to show that the user is in the
private mode.

Better
Speed Dial Page:
The new and improved speed dial page comes with new redesigned
tiles.
Apart from the above mentioned features there are
other improvements too, including better page rendering, more modern User Interface,
on keypad devices the Night Mode can be enabled via shortcut key #*.
Keypad device users can now navigate to the
top of the page and continue up to reach the tab bar without going to menu, And
usual bug fixes and under the hood improvements are also there.

half of our 250 million Opera Mini users are on basic phones, also called
feature phones, and, today, their browser got even better. Opera Mini 8 has a
lot of new stuff to try out, including night mode and private mode, but, for
us, it is also important that Opera Mini is a pleasure to look at. That is why
we have redesigned it to have a fresh, new look that fits into the Opera mobile
browser product line”- commented Mr. Christian Uribe,
Product manager for Opera Mini, Opera software, on the announcement of Opera
Mini 8.
