Windows Store
Why do you prefer Smartphones over normal feature Phones? Pretty Simple answer, the availability of thousands of apps along with some great features, isn’t it? And when it comes to apps, Android and iOS platforms have plenty of apps.

But Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform, which is somewhat new compared to android and iOS is still catching up with these two in terms of number of apps available in App Store. And Microsoft is doing everything to catch up.
Universal Apps
And as a good news to all Windows Phone users and admirers, Windows Phone store has now over 3,00,000 apps to download, yes it is still way low when you compare the number with iOS apps (1.2 million apps available in Apple app store).

Nevertheless, Microsoft has done a great job as 100,000 apps have been added in a six month period in 2013 alone. A Microsoft Spokesperson has expressed his view about this:

We have more than 300,000 Windows Phone apps today and the Windows Phone Store continues to grow…in the past year alone the Windows and Windows Phone app catalog has grown 94 percent, while the number of active developers has grown by 50 percent.

With the introduction of Windows Phone 8.1 OS update, Microsoft presented a new feature named “Universal App”, with this a developer has to code his app for only one version of MS’s OS and the app will support all the other version automatically, whether it be a Smartphone, Tablet, Laptop or Desktop computer.

This will definitely attract Developers to code apps for Windows Platform, which will eventually lead to more new apps soon, but Microsoft will have to work harder and harder to continue the momentum and offer same variety of apps as other major OS platforms.
