Blackberry, after started to lose their Smartphone market share, decided to port their BBM to Android and iOS months ago, and uploaded it as free app in October 2013. And on day it debuted it reached 10 million downloads in Android and iOS. And in its first week it reached a eye popping 20 million downloads. But the App for Android supported only newer version of the OS.

So, developers behind BBM for Android are working hard to deliver an update that will bring BBM app support for older Gingerbread phones. And this update is scheduled to hit in February.

Android has gone past 1 billion users but still a large 21% of users have been stuck at Gingerbread. Now that’s a huge number for sure. So, obviously Blackberry is hoping to capture some more users to use their app. In case you happen to be on Android 2.3 user and want BBM badly in your device just wait for a few more days.
