Popular IM app WeChat is offering free 1 GB cloud storage to its users

Do you use WeChat, one of the most famous Instant Messaging apps, operated by Chinese firm Tencent, Chances are you do, as 41.8 per cents of Smartphone users in India are using it according to Global Web Index, a third party UK based research firm. And if you do here is good news for you.

WeChat is offering 1 GB of free cloud storage to its users to help them store documents, pictures and videos. You can store your pictures, videos and docs by accessing the ‘Favourite’ option on the chat screen, and will be saved directly on the cloud- the company said in a statement. And you can access your saved data anytime and from multiple devices.

This isn’t the first time this is happening though, WeChat’s competitor and once the most favourite instant messaging app Blackberry Messenger aka BBM also offers Dropbox integration to users to let them store large file directly from the app to Dropbox.

"The 'Favourite Message with 1GB cloud storage' feature enables users to save their favourite memories in the form of texts, videos and picture format without having to compromise on their device space and, also enables them to access these with just one touch whenever they want," Tencent India Vice-present, Marketing and Business Development, Nilay Arora said. Such additions to the application add value to overall communication experience of a user and also encourage interaction, he added. 

The app was introduced in India in 2012 and since then it has tasted huge success, The IM app has over 100 million registered accounts globally (outside China). And WeChat was also the second highest downloaded app on iOS in India in the year 2013.
