Yesterday at Google I/O, Google unveiled the newest
version of Android named the ‘Android L’,
and to enhance your excitement this version comes with completely revamped UI
with elegant colours and cool animation effects coupled with new icons.
Android L or you can simply call it L, is still a
beta product so obviously need some modification, so developers will get their
hands on L starting today from developer.android.com along with system images
for the Google Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013).
The Android L mostly relies on the new “Material Design”,
which is a cross platform design language, adds a virtual texture to L making
it more intuitive. Google calls the entire UI a unifying theory of a
rationalized space and a system of motion.
The notifications have been enhanced as well and are
now available on the lockscreen, from there you can tap to expand or open
respective app of the notification or swipe away to clear it off from the
lockscreen.
The new L also comes with updated version of Chrome
Browser (which has been the default Android browser since Jelly Bean). The new Chrome Brwoser now offers a fluid
design with the different part of its UI changing size to give you easier
access to most relevant options. You can feel the extra smoothness when
scrolling around any page as the GUI rendering has been fixed at 60 fps also
the performance has seen some useful tweeks.
ART (Android Run Time) which debuted with Android
4.4 Kitkat, now completely replaces Dalvik and allow apps to run faster with
huge performance boost, ART provides better memory consumption and is
compatible with x86 and MIPS architecture and supports 64-bit.
Google introduced Project Volta, which is said to be tuning the battery performance
in upcoming Android Smartphones. There’s a new battery saving mode that enables
you to tune down the CPU or turn the phone’s radio off resulting in extended
battery life, for example on Nexus 5, this should provide you extra 90 minutes
of additional usage time.
Android L also comes with a unified fitness tracker
app, the Google Fit. It will gather data from your phone, Smartwatch and other
Wearables. The Google Fit will keep track of your steps, sleep time and other
health metrics. Other fitness Apps will be able to use this data with your
permission.
According to Google, Android L will have 5000 new
APIs with a fresh new design that will spread across not only in the Phone,
tablets but many other devices as well and claims it is the biggest release in
the Android history.
As I said earlier in the post, Developers will be
able to grab the developer Preview version of Android L from today from
deleloper.android.com along with system images for Google Nexus 5 and Nexus 7
(2013) and End-users will be provided this update from this fall.
