Couple of days ago in Google I/O Developer event in San
Francisco, Google unveiled the Android’s next generation OS update, the Android L along with another new Android version for developing markets.
“Android One”
a new program using which OEMs now can produce budget Smartphones with great
quality with some specific sets of hardware reference platforms. Sundar Pichai chief
of Google’s Android and Chrome showcased “Android
One” at the event.
“Android One”
will be featuring presets of hardware reference platforms coupled with Stock
Android that will be implemented on the Smartphone that will reach to consumers
at price point of $100 (~ Rs. 6000).
Software wise, Android
One will support Play Auto Installs – Pre installation of several apps on
the phone that the OEMs use to make extra money, till date it was OEM bundling,
but now Google is supporting this as a option in Android One.
Auto Updates – In Android One Updates will be handled by Google itself, and the
devices running Android One will be
getting latest updates just like any Nexus devices. So, you don’t have to wait
for OEMs to deliver updates for your Smartphones.
So, no more laggy, buggy experience, no more waiting
for updates, neat and smooth pure Android at affordable price, The OEMs which
are first to join the Android One platform
are none other than Micromax, Karbonn and Spice.
The three Indian Smartphone manufactures are famous
for making affordable value for money Smartphones in India. The reference model
shown in background is a Micromax Branded Smartphone running on Android One.
The reference model sports a 4.5-inch screen, dual
SIM, FM Radio and SD card support, even the Android One is written on the back above the company’s logo. With
the price point of $100 or Rs. 6000, you will be getting stock Android and reference
hardware.
The reference hardware will help manufacturers to
make it cheaper for consumers and will allow manufacturers app bundling while
updates will be taken over by Google, so this is a win-win situation for both
OEMs and Consumers.
So, the budget Smartphone market is just about to
change for good. So, cheers and also leave your thoughts below in the comments,
