Firefox OS devices to cost $25 in India
Do you love Mozilla’s Firefox Browser? It is one of the most favourite browsers for many of the web surfers out there. And, if you are loyal Firefox fan now it’s the chance (in India), Firefox has partnered with Intex and Spice to launch Firefox OS devices in India.

The partnership with budget Smartphone makers obviously mean cheap price, but the price is only $25 for the entry level Firefox OS device which roughly estimated as Rs. 1500 in India, in that price bracket only feature phones are available in India.

And the HTML 5.0 based Firefox OS has a solid planned future ahead and Mozilla is doing everything in the world to get the developers’ attention and the partnership with these manufacturers at this cheap price point will certainly make people buy Firefox devices and developers will be interested to code apps for the platform.

Mr. Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, Business Head, Mobile, Intex Technologies, said,

Intex is excited to announce its association with Mozilla which will enable us to develop unparalleled smart devices on the latest Firefox OS platform, The platform will give us an edge in upgrading buyers from feature phones to Smartphones while making it affordable for the mass market. This will propel our devices to be much more than a way to use the Web, but take the engagement further and develop the Web as a mobile platform.

Dilip Modi, Co-Founder & CEO of Spice, said,

We have been the technology innovators in India's telecom industry and are pleased to introduce Firefox OS in India through our smartphones to cater to the country's masses. This partnership with Mozilla showcases our commitment to providing the best technological innovations first-hand to our customers. We have high expectations from this partnership as we continue to constantly push the boundaries, and bring unique and exciting products to our customers. These phones will be affordably priced to ensure everyone can enjoy and experience the power of the Firefox OS phone.

The Smartphones will be available within next 2-3 months and in an interview with WSJ, Mozilla chief operating officer, Gong Li said that the current crop of Firefox Smartphones are priced above $60 and are still too expensive for most consumers in India and other Southest Asian countries.

Mozilla has even partnered with Chinese chip maker Spreadtrum Communications to launch a low cost SoC, so that the Manufacturers can keep the price as low as $25.

With a $25 price tag, there is no price gap between a smartphone and a feature phone. This attractive price point would help motivate feature phone users to switch to Smartphones
