Yesterday Qualcomm announced a new generation Snapdragon 805 SoC with better 2.5GHz quad-core processor and 4K graphics.
The Snapdragon 805 brings 4K displays support which was already available on the Snapdragon 800. Interestingly, the new chipset features a brand new Adreno 420 GPU, successor of Adreno 330, which has 40% more processing power than Adreno 330 chips.
The latest Snapdragon 805 SoC also comes with an improved quad-core processor. The cores have got a new Krait 450 architecture and have a maximum clock speed of 2.5GHz and memory bandwidth of upto 25.6 GB/s
The new Krait 450 is still a 32-bit processor, so there is one more generation of hardware to go before Qualcomm release 64-bit processor cores.

Qualcomm has also debuted a new modem Gobi9x35 inside the SoC. It's manufactured on a 20nm processor and is smaller, more power efficient and relatively faster obviously. It supports LTE category 4, dual-band Wi-fi 'ac' and even interesting the ability to stream 4K video via Wi-fi.
The new Snapdragon 805 SoC sports a new dedicated camera processor, which will significantly increase camera speed and might be able to play some part in boosting image quality. It even uses gyro sensor to stabilize the captured photos.

Qualcomm is ready to start mass production of the Snapdragon 805 chips and we may see them in commercial devices in the first quarter of next year. And the first line up should be debut at CES in January and MWC in February. Also we will surely see some prototype devices with this chipset in various benchmarks.

The Snapdragon 805 seems like decent upgrade over the Snapdragon 800, and we are yet to see how much it it can dominate the smartphone world and if it can successfully take the thrown from its predecessor.
