There was a time when Smartphone meant 15,000 Rs plus price, but since Android’s arrival everything has changed. Android is the no.1 mobile OS for quite a long time now, and it can be found from devices starting from 3,500 Rs to 65,000Rs, in contrast to iOS devices which cost large amount of money to buy. Now, if you think that budget Android Smartphone means bad, you are 100% wrong for sure. They are also good and provide best value for money. But when choosing budget Android Smartphone you need to keep some factors in mind, that have vital role in the budget Android Smartphone  you buy. So, here’s the list of factors you need to look for when buying an budget Android Smartphone:

1. Screen Resolution:

Android Smartphones can be found in various screen sizes, but the important thing is what resolution the Smartphone is carrying, whether it is QVGA (240x320p) or HVGA (320x480p) or Full HD (1920x1080p). For lower end device you can’t find HD or Full HD resolution devices but don’t buy any Smartphone featuring QVGA or HVGA resolution as they will provide lesser pixel density and will be visually less attracting as well as poor outdoor visibility, where as higher screen resolution means rich video playback, better touch response, better visibility and more viewing angles. Also the fact is many games won’t support low screen resolution. So, when buying budget Android Smartphone  be sure to check the screen resolution. WVGA (480x800p) or FWVGA (480x854p) are recommended screen resolution for budget Android Smartphones.

2. RAM:

It is one of the most important factors for an Budget Android Smartphone. There are many budget Android Smartphones carrying 512MB RAM but if truth to be told Android OS needs a lot of RAM except Kitkat though which runs smoothly on 512 MB RAM (LINK), But the truth is you won’t find Kitkat in budget devices now. The higher amount of RAM the higher is the multitasking capabilities as well as more fluidness in performance in general usage with lesser lag. So, always buy Smartphone with at least 768 MB RAM (1 GB recommended). And you will find a lot of budget Android Smartphone with 1 GB RAM less than 9000/- Rs price tag.

3. Internal Memory:

This is one place you may have to sacrifice, Internal memory is a vital factor as the more internal memory the more apps you can install also if you are a game lover sad part is you won’t be able to install best games in your Android Smartphone if you’ve low internal memory. Most budget Android Smartphones carry 4 GB internal memory, though only 2-3 GB is user available, but you can’t complain in tight budget. But try to find Smartphones with 8 GB internal memory. If you have a little extra money always go for the 8 GB or more internal memory.

4. Processor:

This part is hard to describe, so I won’t try to give boring technical reasons about every processor genre, rather I'll give you list of processor to look for in budget devices. Most budget Android Smartphones carry Mediatek processors as they are cheap in price, but you should buy budget Android Smartphones with Mediatek 6589, Mediatek 6589T, MediaTek MT6572, MediaTek 6592 (octa-core) processors and also you will find some budget Android Smartphone carrying Snapdragon 200, 400 processors, also Intel offers some cheap processors but they are good in general performance and NVIDIA Tegra 3 can be found in budget Android Smartphones. So, these are the list of processors to look for when buying budget devices. Some processors from Broadcom also available but they are rare and lesser known so I don’t know how they perform.

5. Battery Capacity:

Yes, this is the most important factor for any smartphone, but there isn’t any specific amount of mAh to consider. Battery capacity varies with screen resolution, pixel density and processor cores. For example, a Smartphone with HD 4.7-inch screen with quad-core processor needs at least 2100 mAh battery to last a full day, where as an Android Smartphone with FWVGA 4.7-inch screen with dual-core processor needs 1750 mAh to last a full day of usage. So, choose your Smartphone with correct battery capacity in terms of screen resolution and processor. Also check if the battery is user replaceable or not, as user replaceable batteries are handy if you go out on a long tour and don’t find any charging place.

6. Android version:

Always go for the latest technology never compromise and go for older version of Android. There are many budget Android Smartphones carrying Ice cream Sandwich (v 4.0.X) even Gingerbread (v 2.3.X) it is best to avoid them, as they causes fragmentation in Android ecosystem, also many apps doesn’t support older Android versions (Nova launcher for example), it is recommended to buy Smartphones with at least Android Jelly Bean (v 4.2.2) but Android 4.1 Jelly Bean can be bought as there is little difference between them. But if possible buy Android 4.3 Smartphone if you have a little more cash.

7. Availability of Service Center:

Always remember whatever your phone costs whether 4000 or 40000 Rs, it is a machine and may falter, so when you buy any budget Android Smartphone always try to buy that brand which have service center in your area or nearby area and they have good customer service feedback, so that when in guarantee period you can repair your device there in short time without paying any local repair shop or you have to go to a far place to find a service center. You may visit the service center to check out their behavior and customer service.

Other features like 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, Front camera, Flash, SD card support can be easily sorted out, but the 7 features I mentioned are the lesser known yet crucial factors for buyers. It is your hard earned money that you will spend so always try to buy the perfect budget Android Smartphone of your choice but with a little research if you plan to use it either as a primary phone or use it for a longer period of time.
