Snapdragon-801Qualcomm announced 3 brand new chipsets in MWC this year. First in the line is the Snapdragon 801 (MSM 8974AC), minor update over Snapdragon 800. The CPU clock speed is raised from current 2.26 GHz to 2.45 GHz along with the GPU clock speed that is 578 MHz from 450 MHz and the memory bus from 800 MHz to 933 MHz

Other than the minor changes Snapdragon 801 also features eMMC 5.0 standards that will enable use of faster embedded flash storage like SanDisk iNAND Extreme. Snapdragon 801 features LTE cat 4 with DS-DA tech (Dual Sim, Dual Active).

And other two are Snapdragon 615 (MSM 8936) and Snapdragon 610 (MSM 8939) in Snapdragon 600 line up. Both the SoCs support LTE and are based on 64-bit ARM v8 architecture. Both the chipsets are built on 28 nm LP process and sport Cortex A53 cores.

While Snapdragon 615 is an Octa-core chip with 8 ARM Cortex A53 and the Snapdragon 610 is a quad-core chipset. Both the chipsets have same Adreno 405 GPU unlike the previously announced 64-bit Snapdragon 410 chipset that has Adreno 306 GPU. The 8 core Snapdragon 615 is built on two quad-core clusters, both the clusters have different duties to perform, one cluster is optimized for low power operation while other cluster is optimized for high performance.

"Qualcomm Technologies is redefining the user experience for high-end mobile devices by amassing the unparalleled trilogy of an industry-leading LTE modem, 64-bit multi core processing, and superior multimedia. 64-bit processing capabilities are now an industry requirement for this tier, and we are meeting our customers’ needs with both octa- and quad-core configurations, as well as bringing our superior Adreno 405 graphics and powerful suite of connectivity technologies to the Snapdragon 600 family of chipsets" - declared Murthy Renduchintala, executive vice president of Qualcomm Technologies.

Some other Key spaces of Snapdragon 615 and Snapdragon 610 are:

·         3rd generation LTE modem with LTE – broadcast and LTE DS-DA

·         Qualcomm Technologies’ RF 360 Front End Solution for single 5 mode global LTE SKU

·         3G HSPA+ (up to 42 MBPS), CDMA and TD-SCDMA

·         Adreno 405 GPU with DirectX 11.2, OpenGL ES 3.0 and OpenCL 1.2

·         Supports up to Quad HD(2560x1600p) displays

·         Miracast support for wireless streaming of multimedia content

·         Embedded H.265 hardware decoder

·         Integrated Qualcomm VIVE 802.11 ac Wi-Fi and Buletooth 4.1 solutions.

·         eMMC Interface – 4.5

It is expected to see many major flagship devices running Snapdragon 801 in this MWC and according to Qualcomm the Snapdragon 615 and Snapdragon 610 running Smartphone will be commercially available in the fourth quarter this year.
