iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C

I have got a news that many of you aren't expecting to hear and I think don't expect too. According to Tim Cook, CEO Apple Inc, Apple iPhone sales in India have increased 55% over the past year. Cook revealed this feat in the earnings call for the second quarter on Thursday.

Though he didn't reveal too much of it specifically (no he didn't disclosed how many iPhones got sold). He even claimed strong number of sales in other emerging Smartphone markets including Russia ( sales up by 97%), Vietnam (up by 262%), Brazil (up by 61%) and Turkey (up by 56%). As a matter of fact the numbers are not typing mistake.

In March there was a report of 3 millions of plastic iPhone 5c models were remained unsold and resting in the shelves of retailers and manufacturers. And due to the iPhone 5C's pricing was high enough to lure people to purchase the premium iPhone 5S, Apple did not get high iPhone 5C sales.

Anyway, Apple iPhone 4 was the most successful Apple smartphone in India and even though Apple dis-continued the model in last September, it was re-introduced to India costing Rs. 22,990 and it is currently the cheapest iPhone model in the Indian market.

The sales may have increased significantly, but the credit shouldn't be givven to Apple, as the iPhone 5S carries the official price tag of Rs. 53,500, but it can be yours for as low as Rs. 47,000, similarly the plasticcy iPhone 5C 16 GB variant officially costs Rs. 41,900 but available in a price of Rs. 37,000.

Apple iPhone sales were up by 400% in October-December of 2012 when Apple first introduced buyback scheme for iPhone 4 in India. The iPhone 4S too got a price cut on November last year, costing Rs. 31,500, and Apple soon started a buy back offer on the model and slashed the price down to Rs. 24,000.

Yet again, Online retailers selling the model for approximately Rs. 24,000 with out any exchange offers unlike Apple. Apple even teamed up with banks and retailers to provide the budget conscious Indian people. Oh and I forgot to mention that the cash back offer on iPhone 5C model offers a minimum discount of Rs. 13,000 on a three year old iPhone 4, while newer Smartphones fetch higher value.

Apple recently slipped out to number 3 position on Indian Smartphone Market. Samsung posses the first spot and Sony recently out numbered Apple to became 2nd biggest Smartphone maker in India, Currently Apple holds 7% of the overalls market share.
