According to ET
Motorola Mobility is aiming to expand its business in India after seeing the
huge success of midrange Moto G. It is currently in talks with other retailers
who are willing to sell Motorola Smartphones in India. Currently Motorola’s
Moto G and Moto X are available exclusively from Flipkart in India.
And a lot of retailers are eager to participate with
Motorola obviously,
Magnus Ahlqvist, the corporate vice president, EMEA and APAC at Motorola Mobility said, “a lot of retailers are taking interest in selling Motorola phones, the Moto X and Moto G, through their retail networks.” He further said, “I have an open dialogue with many of the key players in the industry on the large format retail side and also with the operators. All of them are showing a lot of interest because they’re all seeing that Motorola is a highly relevant brand for Indian consumers.”
Motorola anyway would sell their Smartphones online
in India, which has been a successful strategy by Motorola as Moto G soldwithin few hours from Flipkart. Right now the Moto G 8 GB and 16 GB variant
cost Rs. 12,499 and Rs. 13,999 respectively, and Moto X for Rs. 23,999 and is available
exclusively from Flipkart.
The company stopped their business in India soon
after Google acquired them back in 2012 and Motorola again re-entered Indiawith the Moto G. On quitting business from India, Ahlqvist said that the
company underwent a huge transformation in August 2012, after Google’s acquisition.
“It required tough decisions in terms of reducing the number of products and business to a small number of markets but the forced change has helped it build business for the long term.” - he said.
The company is soon to be owned by Lenovo. The Smartphone
market in India is expected to rise to 60 million in 2014, which will make up
about 40% of total mobile phones sales from the country, so there is a huge
potential for Motorola to make good profit.
