According to a report by Digitimes, MediaTek is
not going to produce SoCs for Windows Phone platform in near future. Instead
MediaTek will focus on improving their chips to get a huge share in the 4G
chipset segment.
With Windows Phone 8.1 update, Microsoft
enabled the usage of light weight chipset in Windows Phone including Qualcomm Snapdragon
200. Microsoft even partnered with India Smartphone makers to launch affordable
WP 8.1 Smartphones.
So, it was likely to think MediaTek
would also be used in the Smartphones as thousands of budget Android
Smartphones are found with MediaTek SoCs for their low prices. But if MediaTek
doesn’t produce chipsets for Windows Phone 8.1 Smartphones, then only
Snapdragon 200 are to be used in the affordable WP devices.
Having established an R&D team of over 10,000 members, MediaTek has been rapidly rolling out quad- and 8-core as well as 4G solutions, also plans to launch two 64-bit CPUs in the third quarter of 2014 - According to the sources of Digitimes.
MediaTek is concentrating to make 4G
capable chips to launch for Chinese based Smartphone makers who are now launching
new exciting Smartphones in China as well as other markets.
It further said - MediaTek's
conservative view toward the Windows Phone platform runs counter to rival
Qualcomm, which has decided to launch QRD (Qualcomm Reference Design) Smartphones
for WP.
There are number of Android Smartphones
running MediaTek’s new Octa-core chips and also buyers are also praising the
MediaTek runnig Smartphones. Now let’s see when MediaTek decides to launch
